Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how PHX Holiday Lights (phxholidaylights.com) collects, uses, and shares information about you. PHX Holiday Lights is a free community project operated by Ryan Melville ("we," "us," "our"). It is not a real estate listing service, and using it does not make you a client of any real estate business. By using this site you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
Information you give us. When you submit a holiday light display, we collect the street address of the display, an optional description, and, if you choose to provide them, your name and email address. Your name and email are optional. You can submit a display without either one.
When you send feedback about a display already on the map, such as reporting that it is no longer running or that details need updating, we collect your message and, if you choose to provide it, your name.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we automatically receive your IP address, browser and device type, referring page, the pages you view, and the dates and times of your visits. This is collected through server logs and analytics tools.
Cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies and comparable technologies to keep the site working, remember preferences, and understand aggregate traffic patterns. Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies; the site will still work, though some features may not function as smoothly.
Addresses on the map
This site maps holiday light displays at residential addresses. Submissions come from the public, which means someone may submit your home without asking you first.
We only publish an address after a person reviews and approves the submission, and we publish the display location and any description. We do not publish the name or email of whoever submitted it.
If your home is on this map and you want it removed, tell us and we will take it down. We will remove it promptly, we will not ask you to justify the request, and we do not need you to prove you own the property. Use the contact details at the end of this policy.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- review, approve, publish, and update holiday light displays on the map;
- follow up with you about a display you submitted, if you gave us a way to reach you;
- keep the map accurate, including acting on reports that a display has ended;
- improve the content, performance, and security of the site.
We do not use the email addresses collected on this site to send marketing, newsletters, or real estate promotions, and we do not add them to any mailing list.
Text messaging
This site does not collect phone numbers and does not send text messages.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information.
We share information only in these circumstances:
- Service providers. Vendors that operate the site on our behalf, including our website hosting, our database provider, our internal team messaging tool, and website analytics. These providers may only use the information to perform services for us. Submissions are stored in our database and a notification is sent to our internal team chat so a person can review them.
- Mapping. The map is rendered using Google Maps. Addresses on the map are sent to Google to be displayed, and your use of the map is subject to Google's own terms and privacy policy.
- Legal requirements. When we believe disclosure is required by law, subpoena, or court order, or is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of any person.
- Business transfer. If this project is transferred to someone else, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
Analytics
We use website analytics to understand how visitors use the site in the aggregate. These tools set cookies and receive information such as pages viewed and approximate location derived from IP address. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites using the browser add-on Google provides at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Do Not Track
Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no common industry standard for how to interpret that signal, so we do not currently respond to Do Not Track signals. You can still limit tracking using the cookie controls in your browser and the analytics opt-out described above.
If there is a data breach
If we discover a security incident that compromises unencrypted personal information about you, we will notify you and, where required, the Arizona Attorney General, in the manner and within the timeframe required by Arizona's data breach notification law (A.R.S. § 18-552) and any other law that applies.
Third-party links
This site links to third-party websites and services we do not control, including mapping and social media. Their privacy practices are their own. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit.
Data retention
We keep submissions and feedback for as long as the display is relevant to the map, generally through the current holiday season and while the location remains listed. We delete removal-request records once the removal is complete. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or retain it in de-identified form.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect the information we hold. No website or method of electronic transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
You may:
- ask us what personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct or delete it;
- ask us to remove a residential address from the map;
- ask us to stop contacting you entirely.
To make a request, use the contact details below. We will respond within 30 days.
Arizona does not currently have a comprehensive consumer privacy statute, and this is a small free project that is unlikely to meet the thresholds that trigger laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act. Rather than list rights that may not apply to you, we commit to the following for every visitor regardless of where you live: we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it on request, remove your address from the map on request, and stop contacting you.
Children
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be highlighted on this page.
